Accounting Firms in Abu Dhabi – How to Choose the Right One, and How We Can Help

The right accounting firm in Abu Dhabi depends on your size, licensing authority and needs: the Big Four and international networks suit large groups; independent firms serve most SMEs. Check that auditors are registered with the Ministry of Economy and Tourism, that tax work is done with an FTA-registered tax agent, and that the firm knows ADGM and free zone rules. SGA World has an office in Al Bateen, Abu Dhabi.

Accounting firm in Abu Dhabi: accounting team working together at an office desk

Abu Dhabi has hundreds of accounting and audit firms, from the Big Four to small local practices. Choosing between them is harder than it looks, because your needs depend on where you are licensed (Abu Dhabi mainland, ADGM or a free zone such as KEZAD or Masdar), how big you are and whether you need an audit, tax work or simply reliable books.

This page explains the types of firms in Abu Dhabi, what to check before you sign, and the local rules that affect your accounts. SGA World provides accounting, bookkeeping, VAT, corporate tax and audit services from our office in Khalidiya Towers, Al Bateen, Abu Dhabi, and from our Dubai office in Business Bay.

Accounting Firms in Abu Dhabi: Key Facts

  1. Types: Big Four, international mid-tier networks, independent local firms and freelance bookkeepers.
  2. Audit: statutory audits must be signed by an auditor registered with the Ministry of Economy and Tourism, or an ADGM-registered auditor in ADGM.
  3. Tax: representation before the FTA requires a registered tax agent.
  4. Same federal rules: VAT and corporate tax are the same in Abu Dhabi as in Dubai.
  5. ADGM: accounts filed within 9 months; small companies may be exempt from audit.
  6. Choose on fit: match the firm to your size, licence and industry, not only the brand.

The market

Which Are the Top Accounting Firms in Abu Dhabi?

Abu Dhabi's accounting market has three main groups of firms. The right one depends on your size, sector and budget:

  • The Big Four: Deloitte, PwC, EY and KPMG. They serve government entities, listed companies, banks and large groups, with fees to match.
  • International networks, such as BDO, Grant Thornton, RSM, Crowe and Baker Tilly, which operate in the UAE and serve mid-size companies and international groups.
  • Independent UAE firms, such as SGA World, which serve SMEs, family businesses, free zone companies and ADGM entities with partner-level attention and practical fees.

Whichever group you consider, check that the firm's auditors are registered with the Ministry of Economy and Tourism, that it is accepted by your licensing authority or free zone, and that it has real experience in corporate tax and VAT. For a wider list of audit firms, see our guide to the best auditors in the UAE.

The basics

What Does an Accounting Firm in Abu Dhabi Do?

An accounting firm keeps and reports a company's financial records and makes sure they meet UAE law. In Abu Dhabi most firms offer some or all of the following:

Accounting and audit are different services. A firm that keeps your books cannot also give an independent audit opinion on those same books, so many companies use one firm for accounting and a separate firm for the statutory audit.

How Do You Choose the Right Accounting Firm in Abu Dhabi? 10 Checks

Use these checks to compare firms on substance, not only on price or brand.

1. Auditor registration
A statutory audit must be signed by an auditor registered with the Ministry of Economy and Tourism (or with ADGM for ADGM entities).
2. FTA tax agent
Only a registered tax agent can represent you before the FTA in audits and disputes.
3. Experience with your licence
Abu Dhabi mainland, ADGM and free zones each have their own filing and audit rules.
4. Industry knowledge
Contracting, trading, healthcare and oil and gas suppliers each have specific accounting issues.
5. Corporate tax capability
Books must support taxable income, add-backs, QFZP status and transfer pricing.
6. Who does the work
Ask who will keep your books and who reviews them; a senior review is essential.
7. Software
Cloud accounting you can access, and readiness for e-invoicing from 2027.
8. Clear scope and fee
A written engagement letter listing deliverables, deadlines and what costs extra.
9. Local presence
An Abu Dhabi office makes meetings, document handover and authority visits easier.
10. Independence
Keep the statutory audit separate from the firm that keeps your books.

Licensing authority

Do Abu Dhabi Mainland, ADGM and Free Zone Companies Have Different Accounting Rules?

Federal VAT and corporate tax apply everywhere. Audit and filing rules depend on where the company is licensed.

Where you are licensedCorporate tax registrationAnnual auditWhat else to know
Abu Dhabi mainland (ADDED)YesYesLLCs are expected to appoint an auditor under the Commercial Companies Law
ADGMYesYes, unless smallAccounts filed with the ADGM Registration Authority within 9 months; ADGM-registered auditor
Free zones (KEZAD, Masdar, twofour54, ADAFZ and others)YesDepends on the zoneCheck the zone's renewal rules; many ask for audited accounts
Qualifying Free Zone Person (any zone)YesYesAudited accounts are required every year to keep the 0% rate

In ADGM, a company qualifies as small if its turnover is no more than USD 13.5 million and it has no more than 35 employees, subject to conditions. A QFZP must still have audited accounts for corporate tax.

Abu Dhabi suppliers

Why Do Abu Dhabi Suppliers Need Audit-Ready Accounts?

Many Abu Dhabi businesses supply government entities, ADNOC group companies and other large buyers. These relationships often depend on financial records:

  • In-Country Value (ICV): ICV certificates under the national ICV programme are issued by approved certifying bodies and are based on your audited financial statements. Late or qualified accounts delay the certificate and can affect tender scores.
  • Tenders and pre-qualification: buyers commonly ask for recent audited accounts and tax registration certificates.
  • Bank facilities: lenders ask for audited accounts and, often, management accounts during the year.

We keep the books so the year-end audit is straightforward, and plan the audit timetable around your ICV and tender deadlines.

Tax in Abu Dhabi

Are VAT and Corporate Tax Different in Abu Dhabi?

No. VAT and corporate tax are federal and administered by the Federal Tax Authority, so the same rules apply in Abu Dhabi, Dubai and every other emirate:

  • VAT at 5%, with registration required once taxable supplies exceed AED 375,000 over 12 months.
  • Corporate tax at 0% on taxable income up to AED 375,000 and 9% above, with returns due within 9 months of the financial year end.
  • E-invoicing becomes mandatory in phases from 1 January 2027.

What differs is the licensing authority and, for some businesses, local requirements such as ICV or ADGM filings. That is why it helps to work with a firm that knows both the federal tax rules and the Abu Dhabi authorities.

Frequently asked questions

Accounting Firms in Abu Dhabi – FAQs

Short answers to the questions UAE businesses ask us most. Still unsure?

Talk to our team
01.Which are the top accounting firms in Abu Dhabi?

The Big Four (Deloitte, PwC, EY and KPMG) serve large and listed organisations; international networks such as BDO, Grant Thornton, RSM, Crowe and Baker Tilly serve mid-size and international groups; and independent firms such as SGA World serve SMEs, family businesses, free zone and ADGM companies.

02.Who are the top accounting firms in Abu Dhabi?

There is no official ranking. The Big Four (Deloitte, PwC, EY and KPMG) serve large groups, international mid-tier networks serve mid-size companies, and independent firms serve most SMEs. The best firm is the one that fits your size, licence and industry.

03.How do I choose an accounting firm in Abu Dhabi?

Check auditor registration with the Ministry of Economy and Tourism, FTA tax agent access, experience with your licensing authority and industry, who will do and review the work, the software used, and a written scope and fee.

04.How much do accounting firms in Abu Dhabi charge?

Fees depend on transaction volume, VAT and payroll work, and reporting needs. Market guides commonly quote a few hundred to a few thousand dirhams a month for SME bookkeeping. We quote a fixed monthly fee after reviewing your records.

05.Is there a difference between an accounting firm and an audit firm?

Yes. An accounting firm keeps and prepares your books; an audit firm gives an independent opinion on them. The same firm should not audit books it has prepared.

06.Do auditors in Abu Dhabi need to be registered?

Yes. Statutory audits must be signed by an auditor registered with the Ministry of Economy and Tourism, and ADGM entities need an ADGM-registered auditor.

07.Are VAT and corporate tax rules different in Abu Dhabi?

No. Both are federal and administered by the FTA, so the same rates, thresholds and deadlines apply as in Dubai.

08.Do ADGM companies need an audit?

Yes, unless they qualify for the small company exemption, which generally means turnover of no more than USD 13.5 million and no more than 35 employees, subject to conditions. Accounts are filed within 9 months of the year end.

09.Do Abu Dhabi free zone companies need audited accounts?

Many free zones ask for audited accounts at licence renewal, and every Qualifying Free Zone Person needs audited accounts for corporate tax. Check your zone's current renewal rules.

10.Why do Abu Dhabi suppliers need audited accounts?

ICV certificates are based on audited financial statements, and tenders and bank facilities usually require them too.

11.Where is your Abu Dhabi office?

Khalidiya Towers, Al Bateen, Abu Dhabi. We also have an office in The Exchange Tower, Business Bay, Dubai.

12.Can you serve both our Abu Dhabi and Dubai companies?

Yes. We work with groups that have entities in both emirates, and can keep the books and tax filings for each entity consistent.

13.Can you take over from our current accounting firm?

Yes. We arrange the handover of records and system access, reconcile opening balances and continue without missing a VAT or tax deadline.

14.Which accounting software do you use?

We implement and support Zoho Books and work in other mainstream cloud accounting systems, so you keep access to your own records.
